A BIT ABOUT US

Working Towards a Better Tomorrow

Here at Canine Generated Independence, we see the value in everyone. We want to be a catalyst for positive change, and since our beginnings in 2015, we’ve been driven by the same ideas we initially founded our Not For Profit upon: support, empowerment, and progress.

The five original trustees who's disabilities range from both physical and psychiatric, were unable to find a charity within the UK able to provide them with assistance dogs, primarily because the charities don't provide assistance dogs for mental illness and/or dual trained for mobility and medical alerts. Also with charity waiting lists of up to 5 years, the only option left was to train our own asssitance dogs.

With a qualified dog trainer amongst, we agreed to come together under one logo and to train our dogs to the high level required by the International Association of Assistance Dog Partners (IAADP).  This mirrored the same standards being used for assistance dogs throughout the world, and we were then able to open our doors and welcome more members to do the same.

Canine Generated Independence was born in the winter of 2015 and launched to the public in March 2016 at Crufts with our initial dogs and handlers.
