Selina Valentine

I have been working with a Canine Generated Independence since early 2016. I am a trainer, and an assessor for CGI.  Assessing dogs for general obedience and for the intensive public access test. On behalf of CGI, I do private 1:1 training sessions for clients when needed.

I have always had a passion for animals, animal welfare and always dreamed of working with animals. My dream came true in 2013 when I started as a dog trainer.  I assisted at a local dog club for 2 years, and with an IMDT club for 1 year, whilst taking online courses and attending seminars and workshops.

In 2017 I qualified as a Full Member of the Institute of Modern Dog Trainers (IMDT), and became a member of The Pet Professional Guild (PPG). In 2018 I became a member of the Guild of Dog Trainers (GoDT), and an associate member of International Companion Animal Network (ICAN), and qualified as a Pro Dog Trainer

I started my dog ownership at the age of 14 with my first Border Collie and got hooked on competitive Obedience, (working our way up to C) and then competed in Agility which was new to the UK.  More recently I have competed in Flyball which was great fun.

I have been training handlers and their dogs for over 35 years, most of which has been in Obedience but also in Agility and Flyball.  I also do local home checks for rescue organisations all over the world and 1:1 consultations.

Before I became a trainer for CGI I was a lecturer and Course Coordinator in Health and Social Care and Childcare.  I have my Cert Ed (F.E.), Association of Pet Dog Trainers full membership, Canine First Aid Certificate and am a member of Absolute Dogs Training Academy.

I am passionate about dog training being fun for both the dog and the handler and in continuing my education in dog behaviour.
